AXIS introduces new HFS dive pools
AXIS Flight School has introduced a new discipline – HFS (Horizontal Formation Skydiving), which is intended for indoor skydiving and utilizes both the belly and back-flying orientations simultaneously. It is therefore related to the horizontal rounds drawn during an MFS advanced event, but with an expanded dive pool in order to facilitate more rounds. These disciplines are a great stepping stone for those with formation skydiving experience and are wanting to explore free-flying. There are two versions to choose from: 2-way and 4-way. Both have been added to the AXIS DrawGenerator.
The 2-way HFS dive pool incorporates some elements from the USPA MFS and Collegiate dive pools, as well as the USIS 2-way VFS event. In addition there are some new formations created by AXIS to further expand the pool.
The 4-way HFS dive pool is an adaptation and was inspired by the 4-way VFS discipline.

2-Way Mixed Formation Skydiving (MFS) 2019 Competition Updates
The USPA Board of Directors, with guidance from seasoned mixed formation skydiving competitors, approved changes to the MFS event for the 2019 National Skydiving Championships. Based on competitor feedback from the 2018 Nationals, changes were made to allow for closer synergy between the advanced and open classes, as well as to continue to increase national (and hopefully one day international) participation with the addition of an entry-level intermediate class. MFS is one of the fastest-growing disciplines in skydiving and strives to provide a multi-orientation playing field for all levels of freeflyers.
Many randoms and blocks in the dive pool have been edited, and two new open block moves have been added.
All Class Updates
Alternates: All classes of MFS will now allow for an alternate (fourth team member), much like the formation skydiving competitions. Only one member may serve as a videographer in any given round.

2-Way MFS Intermediate Test Event
A new class will be tested in 2019. This exciting new addition has been included with the goal of enticing more teams to enter the discipline. The key thing for this class is that for the vertical rounds, only one person needs to be proficient at flying head down. Intermediate will consist of eight rounds with three to four points per round:
Three rounds of belly/back drawn from blocks 7, 8, 10, 12 and randoms G, I, K, L, Q, R.
Five rounds of vertical drawn from blocks 4, 5, 6, 11 and randoms B, C, E, F, H, J, O, P.
An open-class competitor WILL be allowed to shoot video for the intermediate event during the test event of 2019 in order to help boost participation.
2-Way MFS Advanced
The biggest change coming to the advanced class is three true mixed rounds have been added; there will no longer be belly/back-only rounds. MFS advanced will now consist of three mixed rounds (combining belly, back, sit and head down) and 5 vertical rounds. The two new approved blocks (13 and 14) will NOT be added to the advanced class.
Another notable change is the addition of some of the randoms not formerly within the class.

AXIS Foundations of Flight: Exiting a 2-way Vertical Compressed

Being competitors at heart, Niklas and Brianne do their best to improve on a daily basis. This applies not only to competitions, but also their business and life’s work – AXIS Flight School. AXIS has gone through an incredible online transformation, which could be called a “Cyber Grand Re-opening”. These changes have been taking place behind the scenes for over two years.
The AXIS website has always been packed with lots of useful tools and information. In order to make the site more user friendly and to keep up with the times more than a facelift was needed. In fact, we started over. Major improvements include a color coded menu system which is easy to navigate, condensed information on every page, and not to be overlooked – The AXIS Skydiving Repository. Here we developed a digital sorting system that categorizes all or our articles and reference materials for faster recall. Now users can search for categories such as solo skills, canopy, camera, and much more to find what you are looking for.
In addition, AXIS Flight School now uses sig.ma, a platform on which you can keep track of accomplishments, IDs, licenses, merits, etc. in a digital form. This allows us to send merits to students who have demonstrated their proficiency to our AXIS Coaches™ and acknowledge their achievements. Available Merits are displayed at the top of each web page, and their colors correspond to the new menu system.
Our online tools are still available to all for free. All AXIS dive pool images, Draw Generator, and ChronoPrism have all been updated with the new 2019 formations.
Mixed Formation Skydiving Block Videos
AXIS Flight School has created a YouTube playlist to help demonstrate how the new 2019 MFS blocks can be executed. This recourse is great for competitors learning the new formations, coaches who need a visual aide, and judges who can use the footage as a warm up in formation recognition.
